Editorial: Reclaiming India

An interesting Editorial in the Times of India, by Tarun Vijay. I particularly liked his rebuttal to Omar Abdullah,

"But he must stop to think why he can own a bungalow in Delhi or Bangalore and at the same time deny that privilege to a fellow Indian in Kashmir?"

Do you think our elite, secular fundamentalists will brand him a patriot?

Just because I hugely admire the gentle , tolerant Sufi mystics doesn't mean that I support the genocidal , mysogenous , violent , medieval barbarism of the Wahabi and Salafi Jihadi fanatics . This is the kind of Muslim I like -

P.S. I've probably missed the point . In London I used to receive the journal of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan from India . Nowadays , I'm out of touch with Indian affairs .

Thanks!

I recently started to subscribe to this magazine:

Very well done, albeit expensive (compared to time/newsweek trash)
But very well done; Their online free content is excellent!

Who are the elite secular fundamentalists?

And why would this shoddily written piece of bombast equal patriotism? The idea he is supporting has merit - reclamation of J&K is an important issue for India - but his reasoning is wonky and the philosophical undercurrents of his arguments are distateful.

Ha hA!

BTW, this was the first time I read an Editorial in TOI -
Having grown up on Colaba Causeway in Mumbai (which is reclaimed land) I was wondering what the opinion on "Reclaiming India" referred to.
I found his rebuttal very valid; and Tarun Vijay certainly seems to have a flair for jingo-ism, which I am certain plays well to his fan base.

I'd rather discuss the taste of grilled salmon than the philosophy of political editorialists!
:-))

Jai Hind!

I remember Bigay , a young lady from the Gambia , staying with us in London . Her grandfather was the Imam of the local mosque , where women were admitted on equal terms . He spent much time in Fana al Haq -Nirvikalpa Samadhi . Bigay eagerly attended lectures given by chelas of Dr. Hari Prasad Shastri on Advaita Vedanta .
On visiting the Nimatullahi Sufi Centre , I was advised not to be a spiritual tourist but to practise Vedanta .

This reminds me of regionalism in Mumbai (before Raj Thackery's recent capers)... when some localities used to deny property sales/leases to folks based (simply) on their name (they probably still might).

There are still communities, which (by are Charter of incorporation) are meant for specific communities;

Cusrow Baug in COlaba is ONLY for Parsees!
Similarly there is Hindu Colony!
These are all private properties which then have a right to determine who they sell their flats too.
