Omega-3s and Grilled Salmon: Food for the Heart and Mind!

Come spring, I can't wait to fire up the grill and throw some salmon on it. Not only is grilled salmon one of my favorite, salmon is also an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids. These essential fatty acids improve heart health, have anti-inflammatory properties and as recent research informs, improve brain function. Yaay!

Oil extracted from fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Two types of omega-3s in fish are: EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid); the human body does not make either of them. So we need to get it in our diet (eat fish) or take supplements. The third type, ALA (Alpha linolenic acid) is highly concentrated in oils from flaxseed, walnut and canola.

Interesting! I had never heard of that before!
Will have to add that to my 'benefits' of omega-3s;

I do know that vitamin E containing oils, like almond oil, are great for skin and particularly good at reversing and preventing the effects of ageing. I use it here during our brutally dry winter season.

*bows to devi with the flawless skin*

we are currently planning on being home - likely go for a looong run.
If you are around let me know and you all should come over.
- and if the weather is good, we can grill fish! :-O

If I can get a place to sleep in Boston, I'll be there that weekend. Currently pinging couch surfers in the area.

Looks yumm... :)

Could you marinate with garlic+ginger+corainder leaves mixture? Fish was my favorite when I ate meat.

p, absolutely;
I'd suggest to tone down the ginger garlic (particularly if you are using the ginger garlic paste);
Many a times, we simply use olive oil and minced fresh basil leaves for the marinate. Super delicious!

we have stopped meats at home (M does not eat other meats); and I will eat chicken when I go out :-)

Enjoy!

I am married to a vegatarian so there are rules about not getting meat home. I will ~ the next time we eat out :-)

oh!
I understand: I do eat chicken but M does not, so we don't cook other meats at home.
Though she is tolerant if I bring some chicken take-out dish.

Amongst the restaurants here, I like Legal Seafoods some of the best fish, though not necessarily spicy.

Heh, if you are invited to a friend's bbq, you could take some fish and marinade it there! :-))
Best

I am born vegetarian, non-vegetarian by choice. I eat chicken (love it actually!), can tolerate turkey sometimes. Allergic to seafood so no fish, prawns, lobster, etc. :(
