Recently in the local news we have had a lot of incidents of bus/metro riders of photographing/video recording of drivers reading, texting on the phone. The driver who was texting was fired. The one caught reading is not fired but not driving. I wonder if we should also start taking pictures of drivers in cars doing all of the above and more and telecasting on the local news. I'd imagine it would take all day. The argument that is more serious because of the many lives that the the driver has in his/her hands, literally. But does that make yours or my life less worthy as we are driving a car on the road?!

Somtimes, you SO want to believe in the goodness of a person..for your own sake, not the person's.

The bird house

I painted this inspired by a bird house in the neighborhood. Bought some cushions to match!

A lot has happened in our garden since my last post. In May, someone from our gardening service decided that the gritty geranium was a weed and pulled it out!! This was not the first time they did something very...

I just realised that it's been ten days since I have had sugar products. The only sugars I have had are that in fruits and Amul's Nutramul (for chocolate drink). Not bad. Not that I was stuffing myself with sugars before that or anything but I would have ice cream, candy, occasional soda. Am trying to make it for a month at least.... lets see how that goes.

Exercise, I have been bad. Have had some health stuff that has affected my regularity but I have been going at least on walks for minimum of half hour everyday. I started doing weights again just a few days ago and a bit sore now. I watched the TLC's 650 lb virgin (a young man who lost 400 pounds with nutrition change and exercise!!!) and got motivated! Really we have no excuse - especially me! The yoga center down the road is closing end of this month not just because of the poor economy but also because of new regulations coming into place.... yoga regulated.

Speaking of health and food, this week am going to go watch Food, Inc.. Chipotle is sponsoring free screenings on certain dates nationwide... so going to give it a try as it's here in town this week! I have read Pollan's excerpts. And now am craving for some Chipotle.... mmmm

Hearts are melting and money is being saved and spent as Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman were announced to star in Keith Huff play A Steady Rain” for a limited run this fall. It will be directed by John Crowley (“The Pillowman”) and will run at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater. Previews are set to begin September 10th and it will run until mid December. Jingle bells!. The drama, "A Steady Rain," is about two Chicago cops whose lifelong friendship is put to the test when they become involved in a domestic dispute in a poor neighborhood.

Daniel Craig, has acted with the Royal National Theater (in “Angels in America”) and in the Peter Hall Company's production at the Old Vic (in “Hurlyburly”), will be making his Broadway debut. Subject: Weekend news
Security:Public
Mood: tired

I am sitting here in our family room with a laptop perched on my lap catching up with some "me" time before the weekend draws to an end. An episode of Monk is running in the background, Arvind is munching some snacks I bought at Trader's Joe during my evening walk, and Atul has slipped into glorious sleep after an afternoon packed with activities that captivitied his interests. My mind is reeling from the satisfaction of being prepared for the week - laundry done and clothes folded, bulk of the cooking completed for the week, and in general, there is a sense of order in the house from keeping everything where it belongs. This is how I like to end my weekend - low key, and relaxed. The knowledge that the household is ready to tackle the intensity that the work week entails makes the monday blues manageable.

I spent the better part of Saturday afternoon micro cleaning Atul's toys - sorting them, finding appropriate storage and putting them in a place where they are least vulnerable to be misplaced. As I winced at the unbelieveable amount of time I was spending on this task, my face secretly beamed as memories of childhood surfaced. Sunday mornings were devoted to dusting and cleaning. Not a good thing for me because I was almost always guilty of spilling my knick-knacks all over the place -  the cupboard, the sewing machine, the showcase, the t.v. side stand, and the table, to name a few.  I only knew too well what was in store for rest of the morning.  So last afternoon as I separated the big trucks from the small cars, and the crayons from the markers , I felt like I could see both sides of the fence - that of being a parent and spending bulk of my time cleaning up the mess which would have been more manageable had the kiddie spent a couple of minutes putting things back in its place, and that of child, who lives in the moment and plays with things that catches his fancy at that moment.

After the husband and the son woke up from their siesta, the family headed to the local bike path. Yours truly was on nadaraja service (on foot), the father took out the razor/scooter to keep up with the kiddie's biking. We had a super duper time and were mighty proud of Atul who did very well sticking to the biking rules. Then we headed to the tennis court to hone some of Arvind's budding tennis skills with the help of my non-existent tennis skills. Arvind lucked out as our unsuspecting neighbors headed to the court and magnanimously included him in the game. That was when the fun began. Atul and I moved out of the tennis courts and found our turf. This time he was the one making rules and I was at the receiving end. So play we did - baseball in a soccer field with a tennis bat and ball. When imagination is not a barrier, the possibilities are endless. That's what my four-and-a-half-year old taught me yesterday.

Today, I caught up with some cooking and in the afternoon we went to the local reservoir to have more fun building runways and airplanes, tunnels and reservoir in sand.

Hope all of you had a balanced weekend as I did. Have a lovely week ahead. For now, sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!

Subject:Heh Meh Bleh. Sunday afternoons and Poemoons. *

It's a little strange that we read poems lying in bed wrapped in white sheets and red pillow-covers breathing out soft swirls of smoke from slim cigarettes acting like we stepped out of the 50's and mouthing words like we had stolen them, but we did steal them and make them ours, didn't we?

It's a little strange that when you read your work out it always sounded like you were making love to me,but what you wrote never was a poem or a story How strange then that I found it so erotic? And the coffee. Yes, the coffee. The dress wrapped itself around her. But I won't. And the white russians(which I can't wait to sip again. Will you make them for me this winter?). Hello, I love you Won't you tell me your name? How intoxicated were we? Sometimes I don't know if I fell in love with you or all the food. It's a Sunday afternoon and sometimes it's hard to get through it. I see your hair is burnin Hills are filled with fire

LA woman, LA woman
LA woman...

Me and my trademarked pose(which includes looking down, nose pointing to the sky, trying to look coy with a hint of a dimple which I think makes me impish) with the bookshelf. On Sunday afternoon when I was desiring poems.

And before any of you starts screaming Why eet eez black and you are in black and all that, let me gently remind you that I was wearing a wine coloured top in the photo and I was listening to Explosions in the sky before I decided to strip the photo of all its colour. Black is the new, er, black.

*They don't rhyme. So? :)
